Human Sexuality, Civil Partnerships & the Church

A major new section is coming on-line over the next few weeks. There has been considerable discussion about civil partnerships within the Church of Scotland via Life & Work, the Ministers' Forum and, of course, the General Assembly 2006. OneKirk has been trying to help minister's and church members explore these issues at depth and with a keen desire to be well-informed.

This section will provide resources to help you to do that. These include Biblical commentary, scientific and sociological information, personal stories and much more.

We hope you will find this information useful.

Discussion Starters

OneKirk was formed out of the need for a balanced discussion amidst the many different viewpoints held within a broad church such as the Church of Scotland.

These pages will provide resources for you personally, and indeed for kirk sessions, presbyteries and others to inform themselves about current issues that affect the life of the church.

There is an extensive list of topics that will be covered in time, but please be patient with us while this gets organised. If you would be willing to help to research a topic and provide discussion resources then please offer your assistance.

The list of topics includes human sexuality, reading the Bible, the role of women and men in the church and home, and many more.

Reflection

One of the most common phrases used in the church is that of the 'church family'. While there are so many beneficial images that brings to mind for many, what if you are single?

Rev Christine Goldie shares her reflections on singleness within the church.

Human Rights & Christian Faith

Human Rights have hit the headlines once more. What are human rights? Are they a construct of human society, and how does Christ inform our talk of human rights?

Rev Prof George Newlands explores some of the issues surrounding humans rights raising our awareness of the importance to keep a door open for conversations between the church and society with respect to rights.

Trident Replacement

Rev Ainslie Walton considers what would make a Christian response to the government's proposed replacement of the Trident nuclear missile system, particularly in light of the current Middle East crisis.
